May Inspection and Work-Hour Log Hours

Aloha fellow gardeners. The Napili Community Garden is growing and thriving!!! A big mahalo to everyone who contributed (and logged) community work hours (CWH) to make our garden beautiful!!!

As you know we’ve been sending notices about once a month to update you on your commitments to the community garden, however, it is your responsibility to log your hours in the book each month, plant your garden and keep your plot and perimeters cleared of weeds. While it hasn’t been enforced in the past, our waiting list continues to grow so if there are non-worked plots, it’s time to let someone else enjoy them.

Please check the following lists and contact us if we need to update hours. We don’t know you worked unless you log your hours. Plots will be reassigned if membership requirements aren’t met.

If you don’t have time to enjoy your garden and participate in the community, please let us know as soon as possible. You can always return to the garden when you have time to participate.

As a refresher we’re including relevant excerpts from the Rules and By-Laws of the NCG.

  1. A member must be current in NCG fees and work hours.” Each plot requires regular attention to the plot, its perimeter and 2 hours community service per plot per month. If you are unable to keep your commitment, please let us know so we can assign the plot to someone on the waiting list.
  2. Garden members who do not complete their required community hours or pay community hour fees by the end of each quarter will be issued a non-compliance letter and will be subject to losing their garden membership.” Gardeners are expected to WORK their CWH, not just pay. Otherwise we’ll have a bunch of money and even more weeds!
  3. “…A Member who has accumulated more than six (6) unworked or unpaid community hours will lose their garden membership and will be notified in writing. Any member who is not current in their community hours or fees will not be able to renew their membership.”
  4. When a Member is not in compliance with any of NCG’s Rules & Regulations, he/she will receive a Letter of Non-compliance as a warning and the Member will be given three weeks to correct the situation.” Those on the lists below received an email in January and continue to be non-compliant for the last three months or are behind in community service by 6 hours will be sent a letter of that their plots will be reassigned.

The following lists include three categories. List one is member plots that need some extra care. List two is member plots that need to spend additional time maintaining their perimeter paths (the two foot around the outside of each garden plot). All members are required to complete 2 hours of community work per plot per month. List three contains the list of gardeners who did not complete their community hours or did not record hours in the work-hour log in the shed. These members need to pay $10.00 per hour for the hours they did not work.

Plot list – weeds should be removed before they flower and go to seed. Grasses that travel should be pulled with the roots. Plots also need to be actively planted and harvested.

Work-hours list – the following gardeners owe the garden $10.00 per hour for unworked hours. If you need help figuring out what to do or are having a personal issue and need help, please let us know. Anyone owing 6 hours is at risk of losing their plot, and those who have more hours have been sent a letter of reassignment.

Please send a check made out to: Tri-Isle RC&D (put NCG Work-hours in the memo) and mail to the garden:

If you worked but did not record your hours, please email the project name and number of hours (with your name and plot number) to the council at napiligarden@gmail.com

If you have any questions regarding membership requirements – please go to the website and read the Rules & By-laws or talk with anyone on the Garden Council. We want to help members enjoy their plots and thrive in the community. However, we do have a waiting list of 20+ gardeners, some of whom have been waiting 7+ months. Feel free to call Lisa 808-633-6281 or Gary 707-480-2376 directly if you need to update hours or need help in figuring out how to do community hours etc. We’re here to help.

We appreciate your prompt attention to these matters. Mahalo

NCG COMMUNITY UPDATE

ALOHA GARDENERS!

We will be holding classes for those gardeners who would like to be able to use the new commercial weed eaters. They will cover safety, preparation, operation, maintenance for storage, etc. You must attend an entire class before you can have access to this equipment.

Classes will be held on:

Saturday June 27 at 9:00 AM

Saturday July 11th at 9:00 AM

We may arrange for further classes or evening classes if we have a demand for them. Watch the board for further details or send inquiries to Jean and Doug Fulton through the garden gmail.

We have several opportunities to help with new or ongoing projects. If you would be interested you can contact the board member in charge.

  1. Lisa Berg and Gary Wellen have need of a helper or possible helpers to assist them with monthly inspections, tracking of work hours, and communicating community standards with garden members. If you would like to help please contact them at 808-633-6281 or 707-480-2376.
  2. Sylvia Pastor is working on a new project to involve people on our plot waiting list as communal gardeners in our community. If you are an established gardener and would like to act as a resource/mentor for this group please send an inquiry to her at our gmail or text her at 808-283-5286.

WHERE SHOULD I WORK? – 5/31/15 update

COMMUNITY WORK HOURS

WHERE SHOULD I WORK?

Updated: May 31st, 2015

Areas that need attention….weeding…mulch….etc

  1. Food Bank plots right side of driveway after the compost pile. Look for green flags outlining the plot area. This needs weeding and maybe replant more plants for Food Bank use: Carrots are in this area, so watch out for them.
  1. THIS AREA STILL NEEDS MORE WORK: Community Garden plot at end of main driveway. Right side outside of the fence area needs to have weeds pulled and removed. Woodchip mulch can be applied to stop the re-growth of the weeds. Area from the driveway to the fence needs to be done.

Look for the green flags outlining the plot area to be worked!

Watch out for plants that are growing in this area too!
