Napili— February 12, 2025 — Today, Napili Community Garden (a 501(c)(5) nonprofit organization) and Maui Land & Pineapple signed an Amendment to License Agreement retroactive to October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2025, extending the lease of
approximately 5 acres of land that has been the site of the active garden since 2011.
“Both parties are committed to begin negotiation of a long term lease as soon as possible to meet the September end date of the extension” states a garden council member. “There has been a lot of negotiation, changes in leadership on both sides, stops and starts and, public opinion surrounding the varied proposed lease terms and we will all be relieved when this is settled in a mutually agreeable way and we can go back to work in the garden.”
“It’s my happy place,” said one member. “The garden has provided years of joy, friendship and plenty of food for members and the community, said another. “Sometimes I just come up and
lie down on the ground for connection and healing” said a member who lost everything in the Lahaina fire.
For the Members
This Amendment is a small step in the right direction to come together with the landowner for making a plan for the future of the garden. A long term lease will allow us to apply for grants that could help us install fencing to protect our crops from pigs and from theft, expand our orchard areas to have more fruit harvest for gardeners and community donations or improve some of our aging infrastructure.
For the Community
“We are so grateful for the outpouring of love and support for our garden. We want to continue to be good stewards of this land, providing a place of peace and healing as well as fresh food for
all of our members, but especially those impacted by the devastating Lahaina Wildfires. A long term lease will ensure that families feel secure in planting and improving the land and sharing
this with their children, grandchildren, and hopefully generations to come. Thank you!”
Napili Community Garden has member plots available at this time. We would love to show you around so you can see for yourself what a special place this is.

Unfortunately, at this time we are a “members only” garden and cannot welcome the general public into our garden.
